Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov called the oil and gas sector a "priority" area for Turkmen-Russian cooperation in 2010 at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Altyn Asyr national television channel reported.
In addition, the sides noted that industries such as electricity and mechanical engineering are covered in a cooperation agreement signed in 2009.
The source reported that Lavrov conveyed warm greetings from President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who expressed a "overall interest in the further progressive development of fruitful cooperation."
Berdimuhamedov, in turn, noted that, "Turkmenistan places great importance on strengthening and expanding traditional comprehensive interstate dialogue."
The sides underscored the prospects for increasing trade turnover and enhancing cooperation between the regions of Russia and Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan supplies natural gas to Russia, China and Iran.
