Iran increases export of gas

At present, about 60 million people in Iran are supplied with natural gas, Iran's national gas company director Javad Owji said, SHANA agency reported.

He said that 46 towns and 341 villages were provided with gas (New year begins in Iran March 21). The number of towns and villages with gas has reached 9,500.

He said that last year gas imports into the country decreased by 17 percent and amounted to 5,9 billion cubic meters. Gas exports from the country increased by 44 percent and amounted to 6,8 billion cubic meters last year compared to 2008.

He added that last year the industry used 23.2 billion cubic meters of gas, or 15 percent more compared to 2008. Last year, gas power plants used 42.9 billion cubic meters of gas compared to 42.2 billion cubic meters in 2008.

Last year the population used an average of 210 million cubic meters of gas per day.

The population used 76.8 billion cubic meters of gas.

He said that gas consumption reached 530 million cubic meters per day because the weather was cold last year.
