Iran intends to significantly increase production at South Pars

In 2010, over 90 billion cubic meters of gas will be produced from the South Pars field, Director of Iranian Oil and Gas Company 'Pars' Ali Vekili was quoted by SHANA. The Iranian new year begins in March.

The company plans to produce 265 million cubic meters of gas per day on the joint South Pars field, Vekili said.

He said since the beginning of this year (March 21) until the present time, gas production from the field South Pars amounts to an average of 200 million cubic meters per day. The company plants to achieve the target of 265 million, Vekili added.

Compared to 2009, gas production increased by 26 percent at this field, Vekili added. In 2009, a total of 67 billion cubic meters of gas produced from the platform operating on the South Pars field.

About 650 million cubic meters of gas per day will produced from the field after its full commission.

The South Pars gas field is located in the Persian Gulf in the border area of Iran with Qatar. The field lies at a depth of 3,000 meters with a reservoir capacity of 450 meters.  Area of the South Pars field is 3,700 square kilometers. The project on development of the South Pars field is divided into 28 phases.
