Exploration drilling in the perspective offshore field Babek in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea will not be conducted in 2010, SOCAR first vice-president on geology, geophysics, and development Khoshbakht Yusifzade today.

"This year no operations will be conducted in this filed," Yusifzade said.

Earlier source in the oil-gas market said that operations on drilling the well were planned to start this year, but date of starting drilling operations depends on company, which will conduct drilling.

Caspian Drilling Company (CDC) acts as the company which will provide its drilling services, the drilling depends on the completion of the repair work at Istiglal.

SOCAR geologists estimate the structure's potential reserves at about 300 billion cubic meters of gas and 45 million tons of gas condensate.

According to the source, project tasks on drilling in the Babek field have been already prepared.

At first, only one well with a depth of 6,800 meters will be drilled.

The Caspian Drilling Company, a joint venture between SOCAR and the Santa Fe Corporation, will carry out the drilling.
