SOCAR determined a program of development of gas facilities in 2010-2013 to reconstruct the gas sector of Azerbaijan in accordance with current requirements under the state program of development of the energy sector (2005-2015), a statement said. SOCAR's Production Association "Azerigas" operates to modernize and improve the gas system.
Under the program, the reconstruction of trunk gas pipelines stretching 554 kilometers, construction of gas pipelines Kalmaz-Astara (360 kilometers), Mingachevir gas distribution station - "Azerbaijan", Sangachal-Kalmaz underground gas storage (90 atmospheres) are provided.
A gas storage and a pipeline Igdir-Sederek stretching 180 kilometers (with six gas distribution stations) will be constructed to provide the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic with gas.
New gas distribution stations will be built.
The program includes installation of 557,000 meters with smart cards in Baku and 401,000 - in the regions of Azerbaijan. Currently, work is conducted in this direction. The process of gasification of regions cover 55 administrative districts and 1,949 villages.
