SOCAR conducts geotechnical work at promising offshore structure Babak

SOCAR plans to complete the geotechnical work at a promising offshore structure "Babak", SOCAR said.

Sonar work is conducted on the structure. Bathymetry is held, a source said.

"Engineering and geological work on the structure is underway. Before the end of this year, they must be completed," a source said. Studies on the structure are carried out to examine the upper layer of the surface.

According to the source, exploratory drilling will not be conducted on the structure of this year. "Geotechnical work must be carried out", - said the source.

A source at the oil and gas market said that wells on the structure "Babak" must be drilled this year. But the specific date will depend on the company.

Caspian Drilling Company (CDC) will provide their services for drilling. According to the source, drilling work should begin after the completion of repairs at the semi-submersible drilling rig Istiglal. Project tasks for drilling "Babak" have been already prepared. First, only one well will be drilled. The design depth which will be 6,800 meters.

SOCAR geologists estimate the potential reserves of the structure "Babak" worth 300 billion cubic meters and 45 million tons of gas condensate.

CDC is a joint venture of SOCAR and Santa Fe Corporation.
