Azerbaijan, Baku, July 13 / Trend A. Badalova /

Greece will negotiate with Turkey for the transit of Azerbaijani gas through its territory, Minister of Environment Energy and Climate Change, Tina Birbili, told Trend in an interview.

"Regarding transit through Turkey, our national gas company will be negotiating the details of the transit agreement with Botas," she said.

However the agreements between Azerbaijan and Turkey which were concluded on the 7th June as well as agreement on preliminary issues between DEPA and Botas mean that the prerequisites for the transit agreement have been established, she said.

The detailed timetable for the direct supply of Azerbaijani gas to Greece is subject to the negotiations between DEPA and SOCAR, she said.

During my recent meeting with Minister Natiq Aliyev in Athens, both ministers agreed in principle that the direct supply of Azerbaijani gas is a common objective, she said.

"We agreed to support and where possible facilitate the efforts of our gas industries in this direction," she said.

During the meeting a decision was made to start negotiations on direct supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Greece.
