A "Memorandum on co-management" of the Inguri hydroelectric power station (HPP) signed with the Russian company Inter RAO UES may be annulled as a result of the freezing of negotiations between the Georgian authorities and the Russian company on signing of agreement on this project.

The Georgian Energy Ministry reported that signing of an agreement with RAO UES is not relevant at this stage, especially since the German Voith Hydro has already begun funding for two units at the hydroelectric station. This company has provided favorable loan worth 20 million euros for the rehabilitation of hydroelectric units.

"Negotiations on the agreement were terminated. The issue is not interesting at this stage," Deputy Energy Minister Maryam Valishvili said.

The Russian company also does not show an interest in the speedy signing of the agreement, Valishvili said.

"The next strategy is that electricity, whose production is costly, will be exported. The power generated by the Inguri HPP will remain in the country, but excess will be exported," Valishvili said.
