The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) held a ceremony yesterday to introduce a new vice president and other officials. 

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev spoke about the company's success in recent years, and detailed its social, economic and ecological projects. He also spoke about large-scale events planned for the near future, stressing the importance of strategic development.

Abdullayev stressed that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev earlier adopted a decision to establish the position of SOCAR vice president of strategic development.

According to a July 2 presidential decree, Tofig Gahramanov was appointed to the position.

Abdullayev also noted that an IT Department was established at SOCAR's main office. Ilham Aslanov was appointed as the head of the department. According to the SOCAR president, Azer Ahmadzade was made the head of the Marketing and Economic Operations Department.

Gahramanov thanked the SOCAR management for their confidence in his abilities.

Gahramanov was born in 1953. He graduated from the Azerbaijani Oil and Chemistry Institute (now the Azerbaijani State Oil Academy). He began working at the New Baku Oil Refinery as an engineer. In 1980-1983, he was secretary of the plant's Komsomol Committee. In 1983-1990, he worked as the instructor of the Baku and Nizami district party committees. In 1990-1998, he worked as the deputy director of the New Baku Oil Refinery. In 1998-2006, he served as the chief of the Economic Operations and Investment Department at Azerneftyanacaq and the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery. In 2006-2007, he was the head of the SOCAR Processing Strategic Development Department. In 2007, he was appointed the head of the SOCAR Marketing and Economic Operations Department.
