SOCAR plans to put into operation a new oil and gas well in offshore field "Alat-Deniz" in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea by late 2010-early 2011, a source in SOCAR said.
He said that according to forecasts it is planned to extract about 40 tons of oil and 20,000 cubic meters of gas daily.
Project total depth is 4,000 meters. About 2,400 meters have been already drilled, the source said.
According to the source, it is planned to drill an exploration well, which is likely to begin next year.
Drilling of these wells in the fields, which are on the balance of SOCAR, aims to maintain the level of oil and gas exploration of the company.
At present, there are 59 fields in Azerbaijan, 18 - offshore.
