After the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the Iranian Khazar Oil Company has decided to open the Oil Khazar Crisis Committee in the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography (INIO).

INIO Director Vahid Chegini said the Khazar Oil Company is opening the committee to combat possible disasters in the Caspian Sea.

"At the moment, the Khazar Oil Company is conducting operations to drill a well 250 kilometers from the Neka Port in the Caspian Sea at the Amir Kabir Platform ," he said. "The depth of well is about 1,000 meters. The company is interested in the platform's ecological safety."

An explosion April 20 at BP's Deepwater Horizon Platform in the Gulf of Mexico resulted in a massive oil leak. The company's specialists only managed to stop the leak July 15.
