The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) plans to put into operation a new gas compressor station at the Gunashli-4 Platform on an offshore field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea by late 2010, a SOCAR source told Trend today.

The station will provide 400,000 cubic meters of low-pressure associated gas per day.

The source said all construction work under the project has been completed. The commissioning process will take several months.

"We are currently engaged in the commissioning process. The station will be put into operation by late 2010," the source said.

The project also involves reconstructing an oil and gas condensate pumping station.

Guneshli belongs to the May 28 Oil and Gas Production Unit.

The same gas was previously emitted into the atmosphere due to a lack of infrastructure, which greatly harmed the environment. The cost of the infrastructure and the project implementation is estimated at $150 million. Emissions vary between 150-250 million cubic meters of gas per year.
