Share of energy products in total exports of Azerbaijan reached 18 percent since the beginning of Azerbaijani gas supplies to Russia, Russian Trade Representative in Azerbaijan Yuri Shchedrin said at a news conference today.
"Since the beginning of deliveries of Azerbaijani gas to Russia the export of energy products considerably increased [...], and their share reached 18 percent," Shchedrin said.
The medium-term contract on purchase-sale of Azerbaijani gas to Russia (with the possibility of extension) was signed between SOCAR and Gazprom in Baku Oct. 14. It covers 2010-2014. Under the contract, the Azerbaijani side will annually supply gas amounting to no less than 500 million cubic meters to Russia. The contract did not specify a limit to the gas supply volume. SOCAR will notify the opposite side of the amount which the company can deliver for the next six months.
Azerbaijan launched gas supplies to Russia Jan.1, 2010.
According to SOCAR, the company exported more than 494.6 million cubic meters of gas to Russia in January-July under the mid-term contract. In July, Russia was delivered more than 66.4 million cubic meters compared to 81.54 million cubic meters in June.
"Azerbaijan exports oil to the north direction via the Baku-Novorossiysk. According to the forecasts of SOCAR, 2.25 million tons of oil should be exported on the pipeline this year.
SOCAR transports oil produced in its own fields, as well as by joint ventures and the companies operating onshore through Novorossiysk.
Today Azerbaijan receives Urals oil (in the port of Novorossiysk) while transporting oil via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline.
SOCAR in January-July exported more than 1.26 million tons from the northern Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline compared to about 1.5 million tons in January-July 2009, the report said.
