U.S. lowers oil import from Azerbaijan

The United States imported 10.4 million barrels of oil from Azerbaijan in January-June 2010, compared to 11.3 million barrels in the same period of 2009, the U.S. State Energy Information Agency (EIA) reported.

In June, the United States imported 2.7 million barrels of oil from Azerbaijan compared to about 3 million barrels of oil in June 2009.

In 2009, the U.S. imported 27.5 million barrels of oil from Azerbaijan. The EIA reports the U.S. imported over 26.8 million barrels of oil in 2008 compared to over 20.6 million in 2007. This figure made up 9.7 million barrels of oil in 2006.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline is a key export route which delivers oil to the Turkish Ceyhan port.

The Azerbaijani light oil is exported from the Georgian Supsa port.

Oil is exported from the Georgian Black Sea Batumi port to where it is delivered from Baku via railway, from Novorossiysk port via Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline.
