Azerbaijan, Baku, August 31 / Trend E. Ismayilov /
The depth of an exploratory well in the offshore perspective structure Umid in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is more than 5,200 meters of projected 6,500 meters, a source in SOCAR carrying out exploration drilling at own expense said.
Drilling is proceeding well. Now the depth of exploration wells is over 5,200 meters, " the source said.
He said that a new well is likely to be drilled early next year.
Exploratory drilling has been already carried out at the structure in 1980-1990. Nine wells were drilled at the structure. They were drilled from floating drilling rigs. SOCAR drills a new exploration well from the platform Umid-1.
It was built on the basis of the unfinished platform "Chirag-6. It is the largest object within the program. Its height is 72 meters. The platform is located 15 kilometers from the offshore field "Bulla-Deniz" at a depth of 58 meters. In total, it is planned to drill six gas wells from the platform.
This is the first exploratory drilling, which SOCAR has been holding independently for the last 15 years. Umid's possible reserves are estimated by SOCAR geologists at 200 billion cubic meters of gas and 30 million tons of condensate.
Umid is one of the promising structures. SOCAR intends to increase its own gas reserves thanks to these structures.
