Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 September /Trend/

The geophysics and geology department of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) has carried out work on the bathymetry (measurement of depth) at 662 kilometers on a prospective structure "Babek" in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea since the beginning of the year, the department said.
The main purpose of the geotechnical work is to study the topography of the seabed and the upper section to determine the placement of various parts of hydraulic installations, including fixed offshore platforms, drilling rigs.

A source at SOCAR said earlier that also exploratory drilling will be implemented on the structure. Caspian Drilling Company (CDC) acts as a company providing services for drilling. According to the source, drilling work should begin after the completion of repairs on the semi-submersible drilling rig "Istiglal". Project tasks for drilling in "Babek" have already been prepared. Firstly, only one well will be drilled on the structure, the design depth of which will be 6,800 meters.

SOCAR geologists evaluate possible reserves of "Babek" at 300 billion cubic meters and 45 million tons of gas condensate.
CDC is a joint venture between SOCAR and Santa Fe Corporation.
