Azerbaijan, Baku, September 6 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

A new exploration well on the offshore Bulla Deniz gas field exceeds 5,200 meters in depth, an inside source at the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) told Trend today.

"More than 5,200 meters were covered while drilling a deep exploratory well at Bulla Deniz," the source said. "Operations will likely end by early 2011."

According to the source, the well is vital for increasing SOCAR gas reserves.

Previously, SOCAR's Geophysics and Geology Office installed the RT-Leuza remote surveillance system to monitor and control processes taking place in the well system.

Bulla Deniz has operated since 1975. Over 62 billion cubic meters of gas and 11 million tons of oil and condensate have been extracted over 34 years.

According to SOCAR geologists, gas production at the field may increase several times over.
