Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, September 28 / Trend H. Hasanov /

China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), the license-holder for hydrocarbon exploration and production on the right bank of the Amu Darya river in Turkmenistan, has announced the opening of a new large gas field with projected reserves of 100 billion cubic meters in the area, the company said.

The report said that this provides an opportunity to strengthen the resource base for safe transportation of fuel via the 7,000-km Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China pipeline put into operation in 2009.

An additional gas compressor station has been recently put into operation in the Lebap region of Turkmenistan at the Bagtyyarlyk field. A new facility, built by the Belgian company Enex, will deliver up to 60 million cubic meters of gas daily.

The capacity of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline can increase by 15 billion cubic meters of gas per year by late 2010. The capacity must reach 30 billion cubic meters a year in 2011.
