In 2011, the amount of financing for the construction of the Georgian section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway construction project will increase due to starting laying the upper blade, deputy transport minister of Azerbaijan Musa Panahov said Tuesday.

"Currently excavation work is carried out on the site, they are cheap, but next year the top leaf will be packed, in connection with which the amount of funds will increase," said Panahov.
Azerbaijan has allocated a loan of $200 million from the State Oil Fund of the country for the construction of the Georgian section.
"Now intensive work is conducted on the rehabilitation of construction on the site. I think that we are fully satisfied with today's rate, and we intend to complete the bulk of work next year,"    said Panakhov.

According to him, the need for construction and connection work on Marabda-Akhalkalaki railway, which does not meet the requirements for the large flow of freight, is currently discussed.
"So, along with experts, we considered this matter and decided that capital rehabilitation should be conducted on this section. The top sheet is almost to be replaced completely because it can not ensure passage of such a large flow of goods," Panahov said.

The Marabda-Akhalkalaki railway is 168 kilometers.
"Currently, experts assess and calculate necessary funding for the rehabilitation of the railway. These data will be submitted to the Government of Azerbaijan and the Georgian side, after which a decision will be made on further increase in funding," said the official.

Additional funding will be provided by Azerbaijan, but the sources of funding depend on the decision of the Government, he said.
