Kazakhstan oil company KazMunaiGas has completed repair of the catalytic cracking unit at the Petromidia Oil Refinery (included in The Rompetrol Group, Romania), KMG said.

According to the report, for overhaul the KMG plans to implement 61 projects at the Petromidia oil refinery and carry out an audit of all major process equipment to improve its efficiency and reduce emissions into the environment. Works are carried out with the involvement of the general contractor - the Rominserv Company.
Implementation of the project on reconstruction of the catalytic cracking unit is part of the "Program 2010" which aims to increase the operating productivity of the plant by 28 percent (from 3.9 to 5 million tons per year) with the replacement of worn-out equipment, as well as increase production of diesel fuel by 9 percent (from 36 percent to 45 percent), compliance with environmental protection requirements when achieving the Euro-5 quality of the total amount of motor fuels.

The project was started in 2007 based on the basic design of the licensor of technology - the UOP Company.

Technological tests are scheduled for Oct.25 2010 for catalytic cracking unit's running at full capacity in November.

One of the key assets of The Rompetrol Group is the Petromidia oil refinery with a design capacity of about 5 million tons a year.
