With preservation of the current trends in energy consumption Iran can become an oil importer, IRINN agency quotes the head of Iran's Transport and Fuel Department, Mohammadreza Ravanian.
"About 30 years ago, amount of oil consumption in Iran was 400,000 barrels per day, and in recent years, daily consumption of oil has reached four million barrels and, if current trends continue, then in the coming years we will become an oil importer," Ravanian said.
It is expected to reduce gasoline consumption by 40 million liters per day with the introduction of quotas in Iran for the purchase of fuel and the implementation of projects to reduce its consumption.
At present, gasoline consumption in Iran is about 63 million liters per day.
