Azerenergy head: Reconstruction of Azerbaijan TPP to be completed by late 2011

JSC Azerenergy (electricity production and distribution in Azerbaijan) plans to complete works on the reconstruction of the Azerbaijan thermal power plant by late 2011, JSC head Etibar Pirverdiyev said.

JSC Azerenergy (electricity production and distribution in Azerbaijan) plans to complete works on the reconstruction of the Azerbaijan thermal power plant by late 2011, the JSC head Etibar Pirverdiyev said.

"Azerbaijan thermal power plant is the largest power plant in Transcaucasia. Today it provides Azerbaijan with electricity by more than 40 percent," Pirverdiyev said.

According to him, currently at the station reconstruction works are underway, which are scheduled to be completed by late 2011. As a result of reconstruction works, scheduled to be carried out at the TPP, its capacity will be increased from the current 2,000 megawatts to 2,600 megawatts.

Pirverdiyev said reconstruction works will allow annually save about 500,000 tons of fuel oil at the TPP.

The TPP consist of eight units. The first energy unit of the plant was commissioned in 1981. In January-August, the Azerbaijani thermal power plant (TPP) generated over 3.3 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.
