Turkmenistan prepares documentation on TAPI gas pipeline construction

The process of preparing documentation for the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) continues, said the report by the chairman of Turkmengaz State Concern Dovlet Mommaev, making a speech at the international investment forum in Ashgabat.

"The TAPI project will be beneficial not only from an economic point of view for energy suppliers and their customers - it is important that this pipeline will become a powerful impetus to strengthening stability and peace in the region, providing opportunities to create thousands of jobs, conditions for the further development of the industry," he said.  

According to him, all participating countries of this large-scale energy project are extremely interested in the construction of this pipeline. The principles of realization of this project are reflected in the inter-governmental agreements between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Recently Kabul hosted the second meeting of the Turkmen-Afghani inter-governmental commission for trade and economic cooperation. The governments of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan signed a framework agreement on the implementation of the TAPI pipeline.
The regular meeting of the technical working group on TAPI gas pipeline project was also held in Ashgabat.
Mommaev said the government of Turkmenistan takes concrete measures to accelerate the construction of the pipeline (TAPI). In December 2010, it is expected to sign a strategic agreement on the draft within a quadripartite summit in Ashgabat."
