Romania interested in gas purchase waits for Turkmen president

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov was invited to pay an official visit to Romania by Romanian President Traian Basescu.

President Basescu paid official visit to Ashgabat on July 22, 2009. The intergovernmental agreements were concluded.

During the talks the presidents of both countries expressed the unity of positions on international energy security by diversifying energy supplies to the markets.

The need for joint efforts by all concerned parties, including producer countries, consumer countries and transit countries was voiced.

Romania is directly interested in gaining direct way to Turkmen gas. Romanian Transgaz is a participant of Nabucco gas pipeline project, together with Austrian OMV, Hungarian MOL, Bulgarian Bulgargaz, Turkish Botas and German RWE.

Brussels hopes to diversify natural fuel sources at the expense of the way of getting energy resources of the Caspian region, primarily from Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries, thanks to Nabucco.

Official Ashgabat repeatedly noted that Turkmenistan is ready to supply natural gas at its border to any buyers, as well as within the Nabucco project.

In its turn, the Romanian side expressed its readiness to participate in the development and transportation of hydrocarbon resources of Turkmenistan, supplying the country with equipment and constructing electric power stations.
