Activity rules approved for managing committee of EU program for reforms in Azerbaijan's energy sector

The activity rules of the managing committee of the program for reforms in the energy sector of Azerbaijan, conducted under the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), have been approved, the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan reported on Friday. The rules were approved during the first meeting of the managing committee, which was held in Baku on Oct. 27.

The activity rules of the managing committee of the program for reforms in the energy sector of Azerbaijan, conducted under the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), have been approved, the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan reported on Friday. The rules were approved during the first meeting of the managing committee, which was held in Baku on Oct. 27.

According to the information in the meeting was attended by senior officials from ministries of Industry and Energy, Finance, the State Statistics Committee, as well as the EU representation in Azerbaijan.

Chairing the meeting, the head of Economic Development Ministry's department for coordination of foreign investment and assistance Sahil Babayev informed the participants about the program, financed from the budget of the National Action Program for 2007 under the ENP, the importance of its implementation and the importance of measures to be taken to receive the following tranches from beneficiaries.

The meeting focused on the distribution of the first tranche between the beneficiaries. Also discussions were held on measures to be implemented by means of this tranche.

Program on support to the EU reforms in the energy sector of the country was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan on April 8, 2009 for the intensive development of energy sector development and reform.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the plan under a grant of 13 million euros allocated by the European Commission in December last year.
The plan should be implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Energy, Ministry of Economic Development, Minister of Finance and other relevant agencies.
