Turkmen oil has been transported via the BTC since July within a contract between SOCAR Trading with Dragon oil and other companies producing oil in Turkmenistan.

About 856,000 tons of Turkmen oil were transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) in July and October this year. Most part of crude oil extracted in Azerbaijan is transported via it, SOCAR said.

About 201,000 tons of Turkmen oil were transported via the pipeline in October.

SOCAR Trading buys oil from producers in Turkmenistan, transports it through the Caspian Sea to Baku. BTC Co transports these volumes of oil via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and gives to SOCAR Trading in the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.

Earlier, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline transported oil from Kazakh Tengiz field of Tengizchevroil (operator Chevron). However, it was ceased because the terms of transportation were not coordinated.

It is planned to resume transportation of Tengiz oil via the BTC by early 2011, a source on the oil and gas market said.

BTC Co. shareholders include: BP (30.1 percent); AzBTC (25 percent); Chevron (8.90 percent); Statoil Hydro (8.71 percent); ТРАО (6.53 percent); Eni (5 percent); Total (5 percent ); Itochu (3.40 percent ); Inpex (2.50 percent); ConocoPhillips (2.50 percent); and Amerada Hess (2.36 percent).

A power flow of the pipeline is 1.2 million barrels of oil per day.
