The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will complete the process of assessing the European companies E. ON and RWE's proposals on the project of reconstruction and modernization of the gas system of the Baku city and the Absheron Peninsula in the near future, a source in SOCAR said.
"The assessment process is underway. It should be completed soon and a contract with one of the companies will be signed by late this year," the source said. Works on preparation of the project of reconstruction and modernization of the gas system of the Baku city and the Absheron Peninsula are scheduled to begin early next year.
Baku and Absheron Peninsula's gas system is the largest in the country and covers about 650,000 subscribers. Ninety percent of the existing infrastructure should be upgraded for its reconstruction and modernization.
