Iran has begun to construct Hashtrood Oil refinery worth roughly $100.5 million, IRIB reported quoting the Deputy Minister of Petroleum for oil refining and distribution Alireza Zeighami as saying.

According to Zeighami Hashtrood, oil refinery's capacity will reach 15,000 barrels per day in the first phase and 75,000 barrels a day in the second.

"At present designing and construction of Iran oil refinery's projects are being carried out fully by local companies and contractors," Zeighami said.

Various types of petroleum products will be produced in Hashtrood Oil refinery including kerosene, gasoline, super gasoline, naphtha and diesel d uring the two years, Zeighami stressed.

"At present Iran's oil refining sector is self-sufficient in electricity by 95 percent, in accurate equipments by about 90 percent and in mechanical sector by 70 percent," Zeighami said earlier.

"Although in the past we were dependent to overseas' companies for providing rotating machineries but at present local companies' progress in providing these machines is remarkable", Zeighami added.

Zeighami remarked that the failure of the enemy's threats on imposing sanctions against Iran is the result of our self-sufficiency noting without achieving self-sufficiency in procurement and implementation of the oil industry projects, we had difficulties in implementation of the projects.

He described 60 to 70 percent of Iranian companies' participation at implementation of the first phase of Imam Khomeini (Shazand) oil refinery's development plan a clear example of high capabilities of Iranian experts noting the project succeeded to come online one year ahead of schedule.

Referring to the first phase of Shazand oil refinery's development plan, the official noted that for the first time in Iran, an Iranian led consortium consist of domestic and foreign companies implemented a multi billion dollars project.

In connection with the role of domestic manufacturer, the official said that 450 million euros of needed equipments of Imam Khomeini (Shazand) oil refinery (about 45 percent) were provided by local companies that were unprecedented when compared with the other domestic oil refineries.

"Despite threats from the west on banning sell of required oil refining equipments to Iran, 98 percent of the basic equipments of the oil refinery were provided by the best foreign manufacturers indicating ineffectiveness of sanctions", Zeighami concluded.
