SOCAR improves quality of produced gasoline

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is in talks with leading world companies to conduct work on the modernization of facilities producing gasoline at the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery in Baku, the company said.

Modernization is needed to improve the quality of gasoline produced at the plant and bring it in line with Euro-3 standards.

According to the report, the feasibility study of the project is being prepared within a project of creating a new processing complex which will include oil and gas processing plants and a plant for the production of petrochemical products. After the construction of the new complex the quality of gasoline produced in Azerbaijan will be brought into line with the Euro-5.

At present, gasoline in Azerbaijan is produced at the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery in Baku.

In 2010 the plant produced about 1.25 million tons of gasoline compared to 537,000 tons in 2000. Last year, about 1.23 million tons of the total volume of gasoline produced at the plant accounted for A-92 gasoline and higher; 20 tons accounted for gasoline A-76. The resulting share of gasoline A-76 was significantly reduced last year as compared to in 2000. In total 446,000 tons of gasoline A-92 and higher were produced, and gasoline A-76 was produced in the amount of 91,000 tons in 2000.

The company said that according to dynamics of different quality gasoline production percentages, A-92 accounted for 95 percent of produced gasoline last year, whereas in 1999 its production share was 65 percent. During this period, production of A-76 gasoline was reduced from 30.7 percent in 1999 to 1.6 percent in 2010. Also during this period, production of A-95 gasoline was reduced from 4.3 percent in 1999 to 3.4 percent in 2010.
