Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, May 23 / Trend H. Hasanov /

U.S President Barack Obama's administration wants close links with Turkmenistan.

The strategic goal is to ensure long-term relations between Ashgabat and Washington.

After the five-year absence of an ambassador in Turkmenistan, a U.S. ambassador has recently been appointed to Turkmenistan.

The diplomatic mission was headed by Robert Patterson, a career diplomat, who served in Central and Eastern Europe, North Caucasus, Russia and east Africa.

Ashgabat is hosting an exhibition of about 60 U.S. companies for the first time, followed by a business forum. The business negotiations are held.

Obama said Patterson is well aware of the mutual benefit of relations with Turkmenistan.

He shares my sincere desire to preserve and enhance long-term friendship relations existing between us.

The two countries have established strong business contacts.
