Azerenergy to triple small hydroelectric power stations' power by 2015

The capacity of small hydropower stations in Azerbaijan will reach 103 megawatts by 2015, "Azerenergy" (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan) said.

The small hydropower plants are constructed as part of Azerbaijan's development of alternative and renewable energy sources.

The capacity of small hydropower plants will reach 46 megawatts in 2012, compared to 33 megawatts in 2011.

"The capacity of the country's small hydropower stations will gradually increase," the statement said. "It will reach 62 megawatts in 2013 and 81 megawatts in 2014."

"Azerenergy" produced more than 18 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity last year.

The production capacity of power plants owned by "Azerenergy" is 6,400 megawatts.

At present, Azerenergy controls more than 200 substations with the capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kilovolts, six hydroelectric plants and 13 thermal power plants.
