Azerbaijan TPP ups power generation

The Azerbaijani thermal power plant (TPP) generated over 2.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in January-May 2011, which is 10 million kilowatt hours more than the forecasted volume, the JSC Azerenergy (production and distribution of electricity in the Azerbaijani regions) reported today.

The Azerbaijani thermal power plant (TPP) generated over 2.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in January-May 2011, which is 10 million kilowatt hours more than the forecasted volume, the JSC Azerenergy (production and distribution of electricity in the Azerbaijani regions) reported today.

According to information, at present reconstruction work is underway at the plant. In particular, the work started in January 2011 on the seventh energy unit was completed in late May. The similar work is underway on the sixth energy unit.

The TPP consist of eight units with capacity of each 300 megawatts each. After completing reconstruction the plant's capacity will be increased from 2,000 MW to 2,600 MW.

Production capacity of power plants owned by Azerenergy is 6,400 megawatts. At present, Azerenergy has more than 200 substations with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kilovolts, and six hydroelectric power plants and 13 thermal power plants on its balance.
