LNG shipping cost triples
Azerbaijan , Baku, June 20 /Trend/
The Iran Oil Ministry said LNG shipping charges increased by three times to $90,000 per day for liquid natural gas shipment through sea, Pananews reported quoting the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line.
Meanwhile, Drewry Shipping Consultants Ltd's analysts reported that in April, short-term LNG shipping rates were $92,000 per day, up from $36,000 in 2009 when the LNG shipping market was amply supplied.
"The increase of global LNG prices has affected the shipment costs, which later tripled," a member of the Institute for International Energy Studies Afshin Javan said.
Damage to Japan Atomic plants increased the LNG demands in Asian countries while Japan needs 3.8 to 11.5 million tons of LNG and Qatar as the biggest LNG producer will have good proposition for LNG export, he said.
Qatar launched three new LNG units to increase annual production to 77 million tons of liquid natural gas.
