Representatives of the North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), the official operator under the North Caspian Sea project in Kazakhstan, have clarified Shell's role in the development of the Kashagan field.

Some media mistakenly believe that the company may be a member of the Kashagan consortium - Shell Kazakhstan Development Company. Shell Development Kashagan is responsible for carrying out the second phase of the Kashagan project, the Strategy Planning General Manager at NCOC Dominique Monfrin told journalists.

Monfrin confirmed that Shell Development Kashagan, as well as AgipKSO team are engaged in the second phase of the Kashagan project. The company has decided to dissolve its staff until "a complete review of the conceptual design of the second phase of the Kashagan project" is reached and permission "to implement the basic design stage received."

"This decision does not affect the first phase of the Kashagan project. AgipKSO is continuing its work work on the first phase of the Kashagan field-development project," Monfrin said.
