Iran starts developing the newly discovered "Tus" gas field in north-east of the country and increases gas production up to more than 61 million cubic meters, SHANA reported quoting Managing Director of Shargh Oil and Gas Exploitation Company Mohammad Reza Mahdipour as saying.

"At present, the gas production capacity is 58 mcm per day but the production will increase up to 61 mcm per day," he said.

The Shargh Oil and Gas Exploitation Company will increase gas production by drilling 11 wells and injecting gas to the wells which increase the reserve storage capacity by the beginning of the new solar year (starts on March 20, 2012).

About 10 mcm of gas are expected to be injected into Shourijeh reserve per day and 20 mcm gas to be produced per day.

The Shargh Oil and Gas Exploitation Company provides domestic and industrial units in Khorsan province alongside with other northern provinces including Golestan and Mazandaran and parts of Semnan province while Neka refinery and Khorasan's Petrochemical Commercial Co also receive fuel from the company.

The Shargh Oil and Gas Exploitation Company covers the gas condensate extraction in east and north-east of Iran. It has already started developing the newly discovered Tus gas field and plans to drill the wells in the current year (started on March20, 2011).

Iran has OPEC's second-highest oil output, and ranks second in the world in terms of natural gas reserves after Russia.
