Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug.2 / Trend, E. Ismayilov /

Construction of a laboratory of the Azerbaijani State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents, which will deal with research in the field of oil and chemistry, will be completed by late 2011, a source in the State Committee said on Tuesday.

According to him, the new laboratory will be located in Sumgayit, where the country's main chemical enterprises are located, which are on the balance of SOCAR's Azerkimya
Production Unit.

"Construction of the laboratory, which will be located in Sumgayit, is underway. By late 2011 it will be built and commissioned," the source said.

Earlier, Ramiz Hasanov, the head of the committee, said creating the laboratory is necessary to improve petrochemicals in the country and increase competitiveness on international markets.

Improving the quality will expand the range of products delivered to the global market.

At present, Azerbaijan has two oil refineries, Azerkimya's chemical production enterprises and a gas processing plant.

It is planned to create a large refinery complex that will unite the refinery, gas processing plant and petrochemical product plant, corresponding to high ecological standards.
