Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 12 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

Azerbaijan has increased gas supplies to Turkey from the "Shah Deniz" field from 6 million cubic meters to 16 million cubic meters per day because of the explosion in the Iran-Turkey gas pipeline, SOCAR senior official said.

He said that the volumes of supplies will be increased till the gas pipeline is repaired in Turkey and gas supply from Iran is resumed.

Turkey has increased its gas purchases from Azerbaijan and Russia after a blast in the Turkish section of a gas pipeline leading from Iran, the Turkish Ministry of Energy earlier told Trend.

The explosion occurred in Turkey's eastern province of Agra. Gas transportation via the pipeline will be restored after repairs.

Gas is delivered from Azerbaijan to Turkey via the South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum). According to the contract, Turkey must annually receive 6.6 billion cubic meters of gas from "Shah Deniz" field.
