Iran has economized $10 billion on power consumption after it cut subsides, IRNA reported quoting Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad as saying.

"Iran records an 8-percent increase in the power consumption a year. However, the power consumption decreased by 10 percent to 20 billion kilowatt hour after it cut subsides in December 2010," Behzad said.

Behzad said the country's power production capacity increased from 38,100 megawatt to 63,245 megawatt since 2005.

"Some $10 billion was invested in the electricity sector, with 50 percent in the power production and rest in the transferring fields," he said.

He underlined that producing nuclear power is long-awaited wish of the Iranian people and this goal will be realized by connecting Bushehr nuclear power plant to the country's electricity network.

Behzad added that Bushehr NPP is operating with 50 percent of its electricity production capacity and this figure will rise to 100 percent in future.
