ADB, Turkmenistan mull joint energy and transport projects

A delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) headed by executive director of the financial institution Ashok Lahiri is in Turkmenistan, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Saturday.

The delegation held several meetings with the Central Bank of the country, the Turkmen Ministry of Economy and Development and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

According to the information, the implementation of major regional and international infrastructure projects, implemented in Turkmenistan with the ADB active participation is one of the topics discussed during the meetings.

The issues related to the ADB's technical and financial support for such investment projects as the construction of the transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI), telecommunications for one of the sites for the North-South railway corridor.

The negotiations are planned to be held at the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Energy and Industry, the Ministry of Road Transport, "Turkmenavtoyollary" State Concern. The ADB's possible involvement in the new joint projects will be considered.
