Turkey is considering to buy a drilling platform, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz told journalists on Monday, the Aksam newspaper reported.
He said if the Turkish Oil and Gas Corporation decides to purchase the platform, the country might purchase the drilling platform worth $1.5 billion.
The Turkish research vessel "Piri Reis" has left the port of Urla for the shores of Cyprus. It will conduct exploration operations on the continental shelf of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Operations are planned within joint plans to explore hydrocarbons in this area in response to the Republic of Cyprus' similar actions.
After Nicosia began working to develop the shelf near the shores of the island, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara will explore for oil and gas in the exclusive economic zone of Northern Cyprus along with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
