Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 18 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

According to forecasts, SOCAR will deliver 345 million cubic meters of gas within the swap arrangements to Iran to meet the gas needs of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, a SOCAR source told Trend today

Last year about 329 million cubic metres of gas were delivered to Iran within the swap arrangement and according to a source, a small increase was forecast in the gas supplies this year.

Azerbaijan and Iran are connected by the Astara-Bind-Biand 1200mm diameter gas pipeline which runs for 1474.5 kilometers, including 296.5 kilometers in Azerbaijan. Its design capacity was 10 billion cubic metres a year but now it is lower. The route is a branch of the Gazakh-Astara-Iran Pipeline commissioned in 1971. Three compressor stations, including in Gazi-Magomed, Aghdash and Gazakh, were built on its route.
