Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 2 / Trend A. Tagiyeva /

The construction of a new 600-megawatt electric power plant in Turkey, designed to provide the petrochemical complex Petkim, a new refinery and the port with electric power, by SOCAR will allow Azerbaijan to enter the electric power market in Turkey, chairman of board, director general of the Turkish Electricity Trading and Contracting Corp. (TETAS) Hacı Duran Gokkaya told Trend on Wednesday.

"After the liberalization of the Turkish energy market, Azerbaijan should be more actively involved in the electric power market of the country," he said.

He said that if an agreement is reached between the two countries, Azerbaijan will be able to provide some share of the Turkish domestic electric power market.

"Energy sources are in Azerbaijan," he said. "Turkey can bring Azerbaijani energy to world markets. Therefore, Ankara and Baku must intensify energy cooperation."

So, next year SOCAR intends to begin construction of a new 600-megawatt power plant in Turkey. The power plant will operate with coal and petroleum coke.
