Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan signed a contract on Turkmen gas supplies to southern regions of Kazakhstan following limitations in Uzbekistan's gas supply, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported quoting Kazakh Deputy Minister for oil and gas Berik Tolumbaev as saying on Monday.

"Uzbekistan limited gas supplies to 100,000 cubic meters on Nov. 1 despite our appeal of 397,000 cubic meters," Tolumbaev said at the selector government conference.

"Kazakhstan's Ministry of Oil and Gas, KazMunaiGas and KazTransGas held negotiations in Uzbekistan in this regard, whilst the Uzbek government continued gas supply restriction," Tolumbaev added.

According to Tolumbaev, Turkmen gas began to flow into the system on Nov. 10. The situation completely normalized on Nov.12 and the system works in normal mode.

"We are ready to supply gas to Zhambyl hydro power plant and to all social facilities and other objects," Tolumbaev said.

Meanwhile, Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov said Kazakhstan traditionally had problems in gas supplies to its southern regions in winter and called on the Ministry of Oil and Gas further to think over measures against such restrictions in advance.
