Asian Development Bank (ADB) allocated $6 million for a pilot project in Tajikistan on the use of alternative energy sources, CA-NEWS reported referring to the Ministry of Finance of the Republic.

Late last week, First Deputy Minister of Finance of Tajikistan Jamshed Nuraliev met with ADB mission, headed by the Director of public management, financial sector and trade division, Debra Kertzman.

"During the meeting the sides discussed the issue on the development of alternative energy (Green Energy) through the use of solar energy. Representatives of the ADB mission noted that Tajikistan has all the necessary climatic conditions for the successful implementation of the proposed pilot project in the amount of $6 million as a grant from the ADB," said the Ministry.

The aim of the project is to provide additional electricity to the rural population in the winter.

"Nuraliev focused on the technical side of the project, its cost-effectiveness and feasibility of providing electricity year-round," noted the Ministry of Finance.

The parties agreed to finalize the project and coordinate it with the government.
