The US will support any pipeline that will come through the Southern Gas Corridor, U.S. State Department Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy Richard Morningstar said at the press-conference in Baku..

However, Morningstar said that it will be more preferable to choose for the first time the smaller pipeline which could be further expanded as new gas volumes will be available.

"It is important that Shah-Deniz consortium to choose the smaller pipeline that can be expanded in the future," Morningstar said.

He mentioned that the chosen pipeline should be commercial viable.

Talking about Nabucco gas pipeline project, Morningstar said that the US continue to offer the political support for this project.

"The realization of the project will be good from political and strategical point of view," Morningstar said.
He said that if Nabucco gas pipeline is built and the US companies are involved in its construction, it will be possible that the US Exim Bank will finance the participation of the US companies.

With regard to the transportation of Iraqi gas through the Southern gas Corridor, Morningstar said that now it is difficult to say when Iraq's gas will be available.

"But I am sure that some time in the future this (transportation of Iraqi gas) should happen," Morningstar said.
