Iran will invest up to $35 million to build its first oil recovery vessel within the next four months, an official with the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran said.

Iran Shipbuilding & Offshore Industries Complex Company (ISOICO) will manufacture the vessel in cooperation with Norwegian experts, Abdolkarim Razazan told the Fars news agency.

The vessel, which is one of the largest of its kind in the Middle East, will operate in the Persian Gulf to collect oil spills.

Oil recovery vessels are designed to undertake a wide range of onshore or offshore cleanup duties. They can also be used for boom laying, dispersant spraying, fire fighting, and beach washing, emergency fuel transfer, equipment and personnel transport.
