Prospects of cooperation discussed at Turkmen-Chinese forum

Beijing has hosted the Turkmen-Chinese business forum in honour of the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's visit to the Republic of China (November 22-25), the Turkmen government said today.

According to a statement, senior officials, representatives of the intergovernmental commission on cooperation, top managers of branch offices, large enterprises and companies and representatives of private business attended the meeting.

Cooperation with China is a priority for Turkmenistan's foreign policy, the report said.
"By treating each other as strategic partners, Turkmenistan, and China steadily accelerate experience and potential of interaction, successfully implementing joint projects in key areas of the economy," a statement said.

During the forum, Chinese partners familiarised themselves with the current macroeconomic situation and investment climate in Turkmenistan. The co-chairmen of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Chinese Cooperation Commission - Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Baymurad Hojamuhammedov and Vice Prime Minister of the Chinese State Council Wang Qishan addressed the forum.

It was stressed that the Turkmenistan-China transnational gas pipeline was commissioned between the two countries in 2009. The prospects of cooperation in the chemical and mining industries, the development of space communications systems and staff training were also discussed.
