By 2023 the share of nuclear power in total power generation will hit 20 percent in Turkey, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry's budget report on its official website on Thursday says.

According to the report, the first phase of the first nuclear power plant will be commissioned seven years after its construction.

All infrastructure is prepared to start construction of the nuclear power plant, and after obtaining a license from the relevant authorities construction work will begin, the report said.
Russian president signed a law on ratification of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation between Russia and Turkey in using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in May 2011.

The agreement creates a framework for cooperation, including in the construction of nuclear power plants in Turkey. It will promote cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear energy in compliance with the nonproliferation regime, as well as promotion of the Russian nuclear technology in Turkey.

In late 2010, Russia ratified an intergovernmental agreement with Turkey on cooperation to build and operate Turkey's first nuclear power plant at "Akkuyu".
