Iran's comprehensive national energy document has been completed the by its oil ministry and sent to President Ahmadinejad's administration for approval, Shana News Agency reports.

As mandated by Article 125 of Iran's Fifth Five-year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2011-2015), the document is the country's 25-year upstream energy plan, said deputy oil minister Mohsen Khojaste-Mehr.

Oil plays a central role in Iran's economy and 99.5 percent the country's energy needs are filled by oil and gas. With 11 percent of the world's oil reserves and 17 percent of its gas reserves Iran plays a significant role in the word's energy markets, said Mr. Khojaste-Mehr.

The world's increasing gas needs, the emergency of new economic centers like Brazil, China, Russia and India, and international companies' desire to invest in oil and gas projects are all good opportunities for Iran to benefit from its energy resources.

The 25-year master document was composed of several important sections including vision, macro objectives, strategies and policies, and it reviews and analyzes Iran's strengths and weaknesses, as well as the opportunities and threats ahead.
