Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 1 / Trend V. Zhavoronkova /

The next round of the Trans Caspian gas pipeline project talks will take place in late February, a source close to negotiations told Trend.

According to the source, the negotiations will be held on working level with involving representatives from the European commission, as well as Turkmenistan's and Azerbaijan's relevant ministries.

The Trans-Caspian gas pipeline which runs for about 300 km is planned to be laid from Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan's coast, where it will be connected to the Southern Gas Corridor.

The talks on the construction of the pipeline have been held since the late 1990s.

The South Corridor is a priority EU energy project diversifying energy supply routes and sources and increasing energy security. It includes the Nabucco gas pipeline, TAP and ITGI (Turkey-Greece-Italy pipeline).

In September 2011 the European Union issued a mandate to start negotiations on an agreement between the EU, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on the Trans-Caspian project. Negotiations are underway.
